The psalmist lists some qualities of a righteous person. These include not hurting or wronging our neighbor, despising the wicked, honoring those who fear God, keeping promises, and not taking advantage of the poor and innocent. Such people may dwell in God’s kingdom.
When Jesus came proclaiming the kingdom of God, he said the kingdom of God is among you (Lk 17:21). God’s kingdom is not an otherworldly hope, but a place where God’s love and justice reign in our hearts. It is not merely a laundry list of to do’s or not to do’s, while achieving or failing to do them. God's kingdom is having assurance in God’s great love through the Gospel and loving others out of that abundance. In God’s love, we can find a solid foundation for our soul and in community with all God’s family.
Application: Lord, reign in our hearts. May we find the joy of doing your will and loving others deeply.
One Word: Secure in God’s love
