“LET MY PEOPLE GO”

Date : Jan 10, 2026
Passage : Exodus 5:1~21
Keyverse : 3

When the Israelites heard from Moses and Aaron that “the LORD was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped” (4:31b). But their initial euphoria was short-lived. When Pharaoh heard God’s command to release the Israelites from their slavery from Moses and Aaron, he instead oppressed the Israelites more intensely and made their labor harsher.

Instead of trusting in God and His servants, the Israelites complained bitterly to Moses and Aaron. They told them they were in the wrong, not really serving God’s purpose for them (v. 21). Moses was discouraged and complained to God (v. 22).

Why does God often appear to us that he makes things hard? Is there not an easy way? Could he not miraculously soften Pharaoh’s heart to let the Israelites go and even give them parting gifts? After all, he created the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them with the words of his mouth. Why is my life so hard, even when I try to serve Him? It’s a good question to ask God in prayer.
Application: Father, thank you for your love and concern for your people, including myself. In our pilgrimage to the land flowing with milk and honey, we run across roadblocks. Although it seems the hardships never stop popping up everywhere unexpectedly, help us not be discouraged but trust in you like soldiers of Christ. Amen.
One Word: I am a Christian soldier
