King Josiah took charge to organize the Passover festival in Judah after it had been neglected for many years. He directed the priests, Levites, musicians, and lay people to prepare (2-4, 15), and Josiah and his officials contributed materially to the offerings (7). When the time came, everything was done according to the Law and David’s precedent. It was a Passover greater than any that had been celebrated since the time of Samuel (18). Because it was diligently prepared and done according to the word of God, this event planted the knowledge of God in the hearts and minds of the people, and helped them look forward to Jesus, our true Passover Lamb.

This Passover celebration could not have succeeded unless someone took responsibility for directing it in all its details. Most of the kings of Israel did not take such responsibility. How about today, in our ministry? God is calling us to exercise practical leadership so that people’s hearts can be turned back to the Lord.
Application: Father, thank you for the example of leaders who helped people practically to worship you and know your word. Help me do my part to prepare the environment for people to worship you.
