Josiah became king of Judah while he was still a child. When he was a teenager, he began to seek the Lord in earnest, and he learned about all the sins his fathers had committed in leading Judah into idol worship. So he led a campaign to purify the land and restore the temple worship (4-13).

While the temple was being put in order, Hilkiah the priest discovered the book of the Law of Moses. Apparently, no one in Judah had read it for a long time! When Josiah heard what was written there, he realized that God’s judgment was coming and that his people’s need for repentance was even greater. (21) God blessed Josiah with a message from the prophetess Huldah revealing his plan, and Josiah had the Law read to all the people and renewed their covenant to follow the Lord. (22-31) Judah’s relationship with God was restored after it had been lost!

If we need to cleanse our heart through repentance and restore the worship of God that we have neglected, Josiah is a great example. We need to read the Bible, not habitually, but to really learn what God would have us to do today.
Application: Father, thank you for responding to us when we come back to you in repentance. Help me always go back to your Word to find your way for me.
