When King Hezekiah commanded the people of Judah and Israel to turn back to God, they responded wholeheartedly, celebrating the Passover and Festival of Unleavened Bread with rejoicing (30:21). When they returned home, they repented practically by smashing their idols (1). Then Hezekiah commanded the people to give offerings to continue to support the worship of God, and they responded willingly to this also (4-5). Then there was a new kind of problem: the priests and Levites had more than they needed! (10)
How did Hezekiah respond to this abundance? He built storerooms, then appointed a manager and assistants to take charge of storing and distributing the offerings and keeping accurate records (11-19). The priests and Levites were faithful and not corrupt in how they handled everything (12). The Lord made Israel prosper due to the people’s right attitude and faithfulness (20-21).
Managing times of blessing well is just as important in our life of faith as enduring hard times. If we live before God and are committed to doing what is right in his eyes with all our resources, using them unselfishly for the good of all God’s people, blessing can overflow.
Application: Father, thank you for being so willing to bless. Help us maintain and multiply your blessings by faithful stewardship.
One Word: Right attitude + faithfulness = blessing
