As soon as the consecration of the temple was completed, Hezekiah wasted no time in devoting the temple for its purpose, that is, to worship the LORD. He went up to the temple early in the morning, together with the city officials.
Their worship began with a sin offering to atone for the sin of Judah and then for the whole of Israel. They recognized their unfaithfulness and prayed for atonement. Then they sang praises to the LORD. David’s worship instruments were used. According to the instructions given to their forefathers (26), the Levites led the people in singing joyful praises of worship. Meanwhile, burnt offerings were presented on the altar as sacrifices for their sins. The heads that had once bowed to idols now bowed before the LORD, praising him for his grace and reconciliation (28).
The service was concluded with the people’s voluntary offerings of thanksgiving. Verses 32-35 describe the abundance of the thanksgiving offering. When a godly leader led the people to repentance and reconciliation with God, the land was filled with worship and praise, and the hearts of the people overflowed with thanksgiving.
