In preparation for the temple, Solomon assembled a team of workers, including carriers, stonecutters, and foremen. Then, he sent a message to Hiram, king of Tyre, for building materials. He explained the purpose of the construction—to build a temple dedicated to God, who is more significant than all other gods. He renewed the alliance with Hiram, as he had been David's trading partner (3).
Solomon understood the undeserved honor he bore as he built a temple for God. He invited Hiram to participate in the work by sending skilled men and the most valuable materials available. As a foreign king, Hiram was moved by Solomon’s humility. He praised God for Solomon’s wisdom, intelligence, and discernment, and agreed to supply the manpower and materials requested.
Solomon’s wisdom was a blessing to his people and even to Hiram, as they saw how he honored God. Are you willing to use the resources you have received from God to bring glory and honor before God? Would you come to him with a humble heart this morning for the honor of serving him with your talents?
Application: Father, thank you for giving me the knowledge to know you. I worship and honor you for all the wonderful things you have done. Help me to be a blessing in the world as I pray to serve you today.
One Word: Preparing with wisdom.
