The seven seals in Revelation refer to a series of judgments from God. Before the seventh and final seal was opened, there fell an awesome silence in heaven. Among the angels in the presence of God, one angel stood out. He served a priestly function on behalf of God’s people. He offered up much incense, along with the prayers of all God’s people. The prayers of God’s people are beautiful and pleasing to him. And God listens to prayer. Then the angel filled the censer with fire from the altar and hurled it to the earth, bringing calamity. Those who fail to repent and return to the Lord bring judgment on the earth.
The trumpets refer to God’s judgment. As the angels sounded their trumpets, judgments came on the earth. One third of the earth was burned up, and one third of the sea turned to blood. When a star called Wormwood fell, one third of the rivers became bitter. At the sound of the fourth trumpet, one third of the sun, the moon, and the stars turned dark. It was the time of woe. But this was the time for all people to come to God, repent, and offer up prayers.
Application: Lord, you are the judge of all the earth. Teach me to repent and come to you in prayer.
One Word: God hears our prayers
