MAKING A COVENANT

Date : Mar 31, 2025
Passage : 2Kings 11:1~21
Keyverse : 17

When Athaliah, saw that her son Ahaziah was killed, she acted quickly to destroy the whole royal family and take the throne for herself. It seemed that David’s kingdom was overthrown by a Baal worshipper. Athaliah ruled Judah not realizing that Joash, one of her grandchildren escaped. Jehosheba, Ahaziah’s sister, hid her nephew baby Joash in the temple for six years. She valued the life of a young child and risked her life to save Joash. Satan tried to destroy David’s lineage, but God kept his promise through Jehosheba.

In the seventh year of Athaliah’s reign, a priest Jehoiada began carrying out a plan to dethrone Athaliah. He revealed Joash the royal prince to the commanders and guards and crowned Joash king of Judah. The people celebrated and accepted his coronation. Jehoiada arrested Athaliah, took her outside the temple, and executed her. Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord, the king, and the people of Judah that they would obey God and respect God’s commands. They were restored as God’s people again. They smashed the alters of Baal and idols. God kept his promise to David through people of faith and courage. In times of difficulty, we are to stand on the promises of God and fight a good fight boldly.
Application: Lord, Satan tries to destroy God’s work, but your promises always prevail. Strengthen me to engage in spiritual warfare.
One Word: People of faith and courage
