In the third year of Cyrus, king of Persia, Daniel received a revelation of a great war. It greatly troubled him. He ate no choice food nor meat or wine. He then had a vision of a heavenly man who was dressed in white linen and a golden belt, who had a golden body and a face like lightning, and who no one else could see. Gazing at him, Daniel was so weak, he turned deathly pale and was helpless. Then he heard the heavenly man speak to him, and he fell into a deep sleep. The heavenly man touched him, strengthened him, and told him to listen carefully. He explained that as soon as Daniel humbled himself through fasting and prayer to gain wisdom and understanding, his words were heard and the heavenly man was sent to help him, but he was detained in a spiritual battle with the prince of Persia. Hearing this, Daniel was speechless and could barely breathe. The heavenly man touched him again and gave Daniel peace and strength to hear his explanation of the vision of the great war.

From this, we learn that we need to fast and pray to have God’s wisdom and understanding. It is hard to fight the spiritual battle, and it drains us. But God will help us and strengthen us with his peace and spiritual power until we know his will.
Application: Father, help me to humble myself to fight the spiritual battle through prayer and fasting and receive your wisdom and strength.
