Again during Belshazzar’s reign, Daniel had another vision. This time he saw a ram that was very powerful and conquered the north, west, and south, and did whatever it pleased. Next, he saw a goat who came from the west and attacked the ram furiously and trampled on him. The goat became very great, but at the height of his power, his horn was broken off. Then, 4 other horns grew in his place. One of them grew powerful and oppressed the Beautiful Land and God’s people. Then, the daily sacrifices were stopped, and the sanctuary was brought low. This wicked ruler prospered, and truth was thrown to the ground.
An angel explained to Daniel that these things regarded the end times. The vision of the ram was about Media and Persia; the vision of the goat was Greece. The 4 horns represented 4 kingdoms that emerged from his empire. A wicked king will rise up and oppress God’s holy people. Later, God will bring him to an end, too.
The world is so dark that God’s people can lose their vision. We need to affirm that God is in control. Kingdoms rise and fall. His judgment will come. In all kinds of tribulations, we must faithfully trust in God and be patient in hope with his vision.
Application: Father, thank you for giving us your vision that the end of this world will come. Help us to patiently have hope in you and be faithful to you.
One Word: Have God’s vision and be patient
