After receiving the meaning of the dream, Daniel immediately goes to the king’s guard and halts the execution of the wisemen. When he is brought before the king, he acknowledges that only God in heaven reveals mysteries.
The king's dream was a statue with a head of gold, chest and arms of silver, belly and thighs of bronze, legs of iron, and feet of iron and clay. A rock struck the statue and then became a mountain that filled the earth. The king of Babylon was the head of gold. Other lesser kingdoms would follow. But the rock is Jesus’ kingdom which will crush all other kingdoms and will itself endure forever (44). Wherever Christianity went, nations and kingdoms were changed. And Christ’s kingdom will never end. Through this dream, Daniel could have hope to persevere by faith in his captivity and wait on the Lord. We can have this hope and be faithful, too.
In awe, King Nebuchadnezzar confessed that Daniel’s God is Most High and promoted him. We learn that when he sought God’s mercy, Daniel’s life was not only spared, but he was lifted up as the king’s top official, and his three friends, too. God blesses our faith to seek his mercy.
Application: Lord, your kingdom reigns forever. May I live for your kingdom and glory.
One Word: Have hope only in Christ’s kingdom which will endure forever
