God created a beautiful world for man. But, after sin entered, man turned his heart away from Him. Not only did people become flesh and marry and live as they pleased, but also the thoughts of their hearts were only evil all the time. They became enemies of God. The earth became corrupt because man corrupted his ways. The LORD’s heart was grieved, and he regretted that He made mankind- so much so that He was going to wipe away the human race from the face of the earth. We must remember how our sin deserves punishment because it grieves God’s heart.
In spite of the corruption of the world, there was one person named Noah who was righteous and walked faithfully with God. He did not pursue the favor of man, but he found favor with God. Noah lived in obedience to the LORD. In holy fear, he built an ark as God commanded (Heb 11:7) to save himself and his family. We get a glimpse of what was to come: Those who obey God’s words by putting their faith in Christ would also be saved. We also can build our lives in reverence to God and be set apart for Him in our modern time.
Application: Father, our sin and rebellion grieve your heart. May we walk humbly before You and be set apart for our generation to bring others to You to be saved.
One Word: Walk by faith before God and be set apart
