This passage is about the coming judgement on the enemies of Israel. Hadrak, Damascus, Hamath, and Tyre are going to be destroyed. Although Tyre was confident in the stronghold they had made, and although they had gold like the dirt, the LORD God will take away their possessions and will take away their power. But even amongst the enemies, God gives grace to them to be part of a clan in Judah and belong to God.
Now, God promises to send his king. He is righteous and victorious. Yet, he is humble and rides on a donkey. Who is this? This is none other than Jesus. Jesus is our king, who comes to us lowly on a donkey. There will be no more need for warhorses, because Jesus will win the ultimate victory on the cross. Jesus will proclaim peace to the nations and his rule will be from sea to sea, from the river to the ends of the earth. When Jesus comes, his authority and power will be complete.
The Lord will save us on that day. We will sparkle like jewels in a crown. The coming of Jesus will make everything new. It will make young men and women thrive once again. When Jesus comes, he will win the ultimate victory over our enemy Satan. We can live a victorious life in him. Thank you, Jesus, for coming as our king!
Application: Thank you, Jesus, for coming as our king!
One Word: See, your king comes to you
