1. Not wealth but the name of the Lord (1-12)
The wise emphasize the importance of our speech. A fool speaks only his own opinions. The words of a man are deep waters. A fool's lips bring him strife and his lips are the snares to his soul. The words of gossip go down to a man's inmost parts. The name of the Lord is a strong tower, but not for the wealthy or the rich, but for the righteous. A proud heart falls down but humility comes before honor. From the fruit of his mouth a man is satisfied (20). But the tongue has the power of life and death (21).
2. There is a friend (13-24)
To answer before listening is foolish. The human spirit can sustain a person. Casting the lot settles disputes. We should not offend a brother. There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother, our Lord Jesus Christ. A wife is found by the favor of the Lord.
